Project summary

This project proposes a web services based application environment to facilitate and speed-up the development and deployment of context-aware integrated mobile speech and data applications. The application environment should allow (i) distributed applications to access and control the underlying 3G network that extends over multiple operator domains, and (ii) designers to develop and deploy application components for distributed mobile multimedia applications that extend over multiple provider domains. The claim that this project wants to validate is that cross-platform application development, in particular regarding flexible mobile multimedia applications, is easier and faster when web services technologies (SOAP, WSDL, UDDI, XML) are used. The application environment to be developed by this project consists of a web services based platform and a web services application skeleton, especially targeted towards context-aware mobile applications with integrated speech and data. In addition, the project will study in a more general sense the role, potentials and deficiencies of web services technology as the enabling technology for developing and deploying distributed mobile multimedia applications.
